Condition & Grading at UPG24

We sell used and refurbished photographic equipment — not new, not shelf-fresh, and not dressed up to look like it is.

Every item we list has had a life before it reached us. Our job is to assess it honestly, test it properly, and describe it clearly so you know exactly what you’re buying.

What “Used” Means at UPG24

“Used” means:

  • Previously owned and used

  • Fully checked for correct operation

  • Individually assessed — no bulk grading

  • Photographed as-is, with no cosmetic hiding

Each item is a single, unique piece of stock. There are no generic listings and no stock images.

Cosmetic Condition vs Functional Condition

Cosmetic condition and functional condition are not the same thing.

  • Cosmetic condition covers signs of use:

marks, wear, rubs, paint loss, polished edges, or light scratches.

  • Functional condition covers how the item performs:

focusing, exposure, controls, mounts, electronics, and operation.

Many items show cosmetic wear but perform perfectly — and we price them accordingly.

Why Photos Matter More Than Labels

We do not rely on vague labels like “Mint” or “Excellent” without evidence.

The photos are the primary description.

They show:

  • The actual item for sale

  • The exact condition

  • Any wear or marks worth knowing about

If something is visible in the photos, it is part of the condition.

Nothing is hidden. Nothing is cropped out.

How to Read Our Listings

To avoid surprises, we would always recommend:

  • Take a moment to review all images carefully

  • Read the condition description in full

  • Expect used gear to show signs of use unless clearly stated otherwise

  • Get in touch before buying if you’re unsure about anything

We’re a friendly bunch with a lot of hands-on experience, and we’re always very happy to help clarify details, talk through condition, or answer questions about suitability.

We believe good listings should answer most questions upfront — but if something isn’t clear, please do ask.

A quick message before buying is always better than a disappointment afterwards.

Our Approach, Plain and Simple

We don’t polish gear to look better than it is.

We don’t oversell condition.

We don’t use generic grading systems.

We describe items as we’d want them described if we were buying them ourselves.

Real cameras. Real photographers. Gear we’d use ourselves.
